Brittany Hornung, CPA

Brittany Hornung, CPA, is the owner of B.R. Hornung CPA, a small accounting firm built on the belief that families come first. She earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Oregon in 2016 and became a licensed CPA in 2017.
Brittany’s career began in 2007 under the mentorship of Mike Buckwald, who guided her growth from assistant to successor. She became a partner in 2019 and proudly took sole ownership of the firm in 2024.

Passionate about mentoring, Brittany inspires the next generation of accounting professionals by sharing her journey and advocating for the future of the profession. She works with state legislators and participates in university events to promote small firms as rewarding career paths.

Outside the office, Brittany enjoys hiking with her family, playing with her kids, and spending time with her dog, Carl. She is a member of the Oregon Society of Certified Public Accountants (OSCPA), the Oregon Association of Independent Accountants (OAIA), and the Florence Area Chamber of Commerce.

Brittany is dedicated to fostering a supportive environment for clients, employees, and her community, always emphasizing the importance of family and connection.

Brian Smart, LTP

Brian wears many hats at B.R. Hornung, CPA, serving as a payroll specialist, lead bookkeeper, and licensed tax preparer. A graduate of the University of Oregon with a degree in Economics, he applies his business and economic expertise to his work every day.

Since joining B.R. Hornung, CPA, Brian has excelled as a bookkeeper, skillfully managing engagements in some of the most challenging industries. He is also a seasoned tax professional whose eagerness to learn has propelled him into new roles, where he shares his expertise and fosters team growth.

In his free time, Brian enjoys cultivating plants and vegetables during the summer and spending time with his tuxedo cat, Boots. A resident of Florence since 2017, he loves life on the coast and looks forward to many more years in the community.

Jennifer Marus, LTP

Jennifer Marus, LTP, is our office manager, lead bookkeeper, and a seasoned tax preparer. With expertise in payroll and quality control, Jennifer has been an integral part of B.R. Hornung, CPA since 2010. Her inquisitive nature and keen eye for detail make her an invaluable asset to the team, ensuring accuracy and excellence in everything she does.
As our onboarding coach, Jennifer helps new team members seamlessly integrate into our firm, sharing her knowledge and fostering a supportive environment.
Outside the office, Jennifer enjoys creating beauty in small spaces, expanding her knowledge of plants, and cherishing moments filled with belly laughs and good times. She truly is a gem, bringing positivity and dedication to both her work and personal life.

Taylor Coolidge, Student of Accounting

Taylor Coolidge is one of our talented lead bookkeepers. She discovered her passion for accounting and bookkeeping early on when she joined B.R. Hornung, CPA in 2021. Currently pursuing a degree in accounting with plans to become a CPA, Taylor is a dedicated full-time student who still manages a full workload, including some of our most complex engagements.

Taylor’s hard work and quick learning have allowed her to excel in corporate and partnership tax law, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to her professional growth.

A Florence native, Taylor enjoys board games, crocheting, and thrifting in her free time. Her drive, expertise, and enthusiasm make her a valuable member of our team and a rising star in the field of accounting.

Jerome Orze, CPA

Jerome Orze graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a minor in economics. A native of Chicago’s Northwest Side, Jerome earned his CPA license in Illinois in 2018.

His passion for hiking and backpacking eventually led him to the Pacific Northwest, where he became licensed as a CPA in Oregon in 2022. Drawn to the charm of Florence, he embraced the opportunity to settle on the coast after spending nearly three years as the “oddball” who enjoyed winter visits to the seaside.

With experience spanning various accounting roles, Jerome decided to leave the corporate world behind to focus on tax accounting. His mission is to make a meaningful difference for individuals and small businesses, helping them navigate their financial journeys with confidence and clarity.

In his free time, you’ll find Jerome exploring the great outdoors or planning his next backpacking adventure.

Jensen Machado

Jensen Machado joined our team in 2024 as an administrative assistant, bookkeeper and payroll clerk. A graduate of the University of Maryland with a degree in finance, Jensen is excited to expand his expertise through hands-on experience in accounting and tax.

Jensen served as an aircraft mechanic in the military for seven years, before transitioning to the accounting field, and is now furthering his education to obtain his tax preparer license.

In his free time, Jensen enjoys surfing, riding dirt bikes, and hiking, always embracing opportunities to stay active and explore the outdoors.
